Renovation and complete modernization of Wing A nursing unit on 2nd floor and Artificial Kidney Unit reception area
On Thursday 31 January 2019, OPAP delivered another part of its significant renovation project at the “Panagiotis and Aglaia Kyriacou” children’s hospital. Namely, the renovated and completely modernized Wing A nursing unit on the second floor and the reception area of the Artificial Kidney Unit were delivered. The new works, covering a total area of 700 sq. meters with a capacity of 24 beds, are part of the renovation of the “Aghia Sophia” and “Panagiotis and Aglaia Kyriacou” children’s hospitals, carried out by OPAP since 2014.
OPAP Executive President, Kamil Ziegler, stated during the project delivery event: “Throughout our history, we have proven to be more than a social contributor. We have been a responsible and credible partner of Greek society in achieving common objectives and we fully acknowledge the positive change we can bring. When we launched our ambitious initiative to renovate Greece’s two largest hospitals, we had one long-term goal in mind: to support young people – the country’s most valuable asset – in practice. Today’s inauguration of the new nursing unit on the second floor of the “Panagiotis & Aglaia Kyriacou” children’s hospital is a special moment for all of us at OPAP. Of course our work will continue with the same intensity and commitment, in order to make a real difference to the lives of thousands of children”.
OPAP CEO, Damian Cope, pointed out: “At OPAP we take great pride in being a constant supporter of the country’s youth. Our comprehensive corporate responsibility strategy puts the Health sector at the center of our efforts. Today, we deliver another fully renovated nursing unit at the “Panagiotis & Aglaia Kyriacou” children’s hospital, which takes the number of renovation works we’ve completed to 23, including 16 nursing units. Having passed the 52% mark, our long-term initiative to fully renovate Greece’s two largest children’s hospitals has arrived at an important milestone. However, I can assure you that everyone at OPAP will continue working hard to ensure children in Greece have access to top class medical facilities”.
The Joint Governor of the Hospitals, Emmanuel Papasavvas, underlined: “Today is an important day for our hospital. The modernization of the nursing unit will significantly contribute to the medical services available to children in the clinic. Pleasant colors and a nice environment highly affect children’s psychology and aid their recovery. We thank OPAP for its significant initiative and the continuation of the project for the renovation of both children’s hospitals”.
OPAP began the renovation project at the two hospitals, “Aghia Sophia” and “Panagiotis & Aglaia Kyriacou” in April 2014 in the framework of its Corporate Responsibility program. To date, a total of 23 renovation works have been delivered – including 16 nursing units over a total of 9,930 sq. meters with a capacity of 345 beds – covering 52% of the two hospitals. The works include the installation of new hotel and medical equipment, the modernization of the electrotechnical equipment and all the necessary decorative interventions.
